Previously, we shared some tips for playing our East Course from our Head Pro, James Biggs. And while our East Course is currently closed for improvements, we want you to be ready for the “new and improved” East Course by October 1st, 2011 – so we’re sharing three more “Tips from the Pro”!
Hole 4: Long dog-leg left Par 4. Make sure you’re lining yourself up correctly on this tee shot. I try to keep my feet, my hips, and my shoulders all aiming at the same spot.
Hole 5: Another long Par 3 where the green is more elevated than you think. For every 10 yards of elevation, I like to add a club. The ball will be in the air less therefore it won’t travel as far. Same rule applies when going downhill.
Hole 6: Water runs all the way across the fairway on this number 1 handicap Par 4. Take out your 180-190 yard club and aim for the right side of the fairway toward the tree. I try to give myself a good angle at every green to minimize the difficulty of the approach shot.
The entire staff at The Pearl Golf Course in Brunswick County is excited for upcoming improvements on our East Course! We have closed the East Course from now until October 1, 2011 to install new Mini Verde Bermuda Greens and do routine maintenance in an effort to continually stand out from other golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Follow us on our Facebook golf page for the latest updates on the course.
The entire team at The Pearl is excited to host the ATMC Captain’s Choice Tournament on September 18, 2011! ATMC specifically chose our Brunswick County golf course for their shotgun start tournament, where we have two championship Dan Maples courses. Golfers will also enjoy lunch at our restaurant and bar, where we recently expanded the menu. If you are interested in having your company or organization’s golf tournament at The Pearl, simply contact us. If your group is in need of hotel accommodations, we recommend our friends at The Islander Inn in Ocean Isle Beach, just a short five minute drive away.
If you haven’t “Liked” The Pearl Golf Course’s Facebook Page, you’re missing out on hearing about our latest specials, giveaways and contests. If you “Check In” at The Pearl Golf Course via Facebook, you can pick up a free bucket of range balls. And our latest contest is an exciting one…
Jimmy Biggs, the Head Pro at Calabash’s Premier golf course, The Pearl, has compiled a list of tips to play their East Course. Here you will find useful tips on the first three holes and keep following their blog for more tips to come soon!
Hole 1: The Pearl East starts you off with a long and narrow par 5. My advice here is to be smart and play for a green in regulation. Don’t be a hero and try the “steroid jerk” with a 3-wood to get on in two. The fairway is much more forgiving than the woods.
Hole 2: Long par 3 guarded by bunkers short of the green. Take the trouble out of play. Take an extra club, choke up your grip a little bit and swing easy. This makes the bunkers a non-factor and increases your chances of a birdie putt.
Hole 3: This short par 4 will reward an accurate tee shot. Try staying away from that full swing 60 degree wedge or your approach shot. I like to hit a ½ swing pitching wedge into that green. Narrow stance, ball position toward the middle of your stance, swing with your shoulders and let the club do the work.
Whether it’s before or after your day on the links, our restaurant at The Pearl Golf Course in Calabash is ready to serve you with our new and expanded menu! All menu items can be prepared and served in less than five minutes so you’ll be sure to make your tee time, and you can enjoy them in our relaxed setting with our panoramic view of our East and West Courses.

Chris King of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday recently visited Myrtle Beach area golf course The Pearl and proclaimed the West Course “the Gem of the Grand Strand.” Within his review of The Pearl, King declared, “The West Course at Pearl Golf Links offers natural beauty with the Calabash River and it remains a trailblazing layout. Setting history and scenery aside, the West Course’s greatest attribute is its playability. With wide fairways and five sets of tees, including four that range from 5,768 to 7,000 yards, it’s a good layout for any level of golfer, which is vital for large groups. The West Course makes for an outstanding round.” Read the rest of the Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday review of The Pearl Golf Course here.
